Smith Farms - Open Field Corn Demonstration
The United States is the largest single producer of corn in the world. Over
400,000 farms collectively produce almost 10 Billion bushels of corn per year,
and this accounts for nearly one quarter of the harvested crop acres in the U.S.
Domestic consumption uses the largest share of the corn produced as feedstock
for livestock, poultry, and to farmed fish production. The corn is fed in the form of
ground grain, silage, high-moisture and high oil corn. For human consumption it
may be provided in whole form, in corn products such as corn chips or indirectly
through corn oil, and high fructose corn syrup. In addition, ethanol, also a product
made from corn, is a popular additive to petroleum fuels (gasoline) in the U.S.
market.
This demonstration was conducted during the 2012 growing season, considered
to be one of the hottest and driest years in the last decade, at Smith Farms in
Utopia, Ontario, Canada. The owner of Smith Farms, Tom Smith is considered
an authority on Agricultural processes, and was recognized by the Canadian
government by being listed amongst the Hundred Most Influential Men in
Agriculture of the 20th Century.
Criteria: The fields were to be sown with both AquAlign treated seed and
non-treated seeds to act as a control. From the onset it was determined that this
demonstration would be conducted with minimal intervention, in accordance with
this TE AquAlign™ Systems were employed only once, at the time of planting.
Both treated seeds and control seeds were planted using the same seed drill,
in the same field. The germination and subsequent growth of the corn was
continually monitored from seeding in the week of May 20th until harvest in the
last week of October.
General Information:
- Seed was non-GMO, non-Round-up Ready
- Field soil composition varied - sandy/sandy-loam/loam
- Samples & measurements taken from sandy-loam soil
- Field fertilized once; herbicide applied once
- Field was not irrigated
Evaluation Protocol:
The two primary performance indicators were: (1)
Speed and quality of germination as evidenced by growth of roots and leaves; (2)
Yield at harvest.
Results:
Within 2 weeks (June 8th) the differential was clearly measureable; average
Control height was 7.3” while the treated plants averaged 12.4”. The AquAligned
plants evidenced a 50% larger stock (at base) diameter, and a significantly
enhanced root growth. By July 20th, the AquAligned plants had achieved an
average height of 7.1’ as compared to 5.6’ for the control plants. And at harvest,
the AquAligned plants delivered more, larger, heavier, kernel dense cobs with a
net yield of 31% greater than the control!
NOTE: As the growers using our systems will attest, the benefits they received resulted in impressive and measureable improvements, but they are also the first people to tell us that Mother Nature is a fickle mistress. So, while many of the results in our field demonstrations are very significant, we do not mean to suggest that those results will be duplicated in every instance. It is our expectation that you will see a 10+% improvement in your results provided those ‘variables beyond our control’ don’t intervene… But, ‘aligned’ water versus ‘raw’ water? Over 20 years of research and applied field trials says you’ll see the difference!
